WALTER DRESSEL 1918 - 2009 The family of Walter Dressel sadly announces his sudden passing at Concordia Hospital on Wednesday, June 3, 2009. Walter was born in Dryden, Ontario, on February 15, 1918 near Vermilion Bay, where his immigrant parents, William and Beata owned and operated a general store. Last May he was predeceased by Linda, his wife of 66 years, and is survived by their three children, Maureen (Greg) McDonnell, Robert Dressel, and Lawrence (Pat) Dressel. He enjoyed many years with their grandchildren, Glen, Ted, Andrew, Jennifer, Kayt, and their great grand daughter, Jolie. As a young man, Walter began his career as a welder with Canadian Co-operative Implements Ltd. He had a strong work ethic and a natural talent for all things mechanical which was recognized by CCIL, and enabled him to rise quickly through the ranks. He was eventually promoted to the position of Manager of Research and Development from which he retired in 1983. Post retirement, Walter and Linda kept busy visiting their out-of-town family as well as puttering at his beloved cottage at Pinawa Bay. The family gathered there as often as possible, and many good times are remembered. At home he kept busy with the study and repair of electronics, in particular old radios and televisions. He was an avid reader and kept abreast of current events with a special interest in all matters of Canadian politics. He had a strong sense of justice and equality and was an active member of the New Democratic Party. We are grateful for the support of all the good people who helped Walter remain in his home since Linda's passing last year. He greatly missed Linda, but enjoyed a good year filled with watching old movies, reading, and tinkering with minor repairs. The family welcomes friends to join in a celebration of Walter's life at his home on Thursday, June 11, 2009 between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to: KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson Hwy. 338-0331 Send expressions of sympathy at www.mem.com
